Distracted Driver Seriously Injured

On Thursday, March 3, there was a traffic accident involving a distracted driver.

According to Valdosta Police, the accident happened at approximately 4.25 p.m. at the intersection of Clay Road and E. Hill Avenue.

Their investigation revealed that the driver of a 1993 Chevrolet pickup was traveling westbound on E. Hill Avenue and a tractor trailer was stopped waiting to turn onto Clay Road in front of the pickup. The driver of the pickup was downloading music on his cellular telephone and rear ended the tractor trailer.

The driver of the pickup, who was not wearing a seat belt, sustained serious injuries and was transported to South Georgia Medical Center by the Emergency Medical Services.

The police said that cellular telephones are a distraction and reminded that each time a driver looks at a cell phone they have their eyes off the road for around 5 seconds which means if driving at 55 mph they will have travelled the length of a football field before looking at the roadway again.
