Click it or Ticket Campaign Halfway Through

This year in Lanier Country there is a Click it or Ticket campaign and at the halfway stage the sheriff has said that they have issued more warnings and citations for seat belt violations than previously.

The campaign began on November 14 and runs through November 27 and according to the Sheriff, Nick Norton, the reason for the increase is that there are more drivers on the road and deputies are keeping a very close watch on seat belts, with warnings for first time offenses and citations for second offenses.

According to statistics around 50% of all victims in road accidents were not restrained and according to the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety in 2014, 12,802 people in vehicles had their lives saved by a seat belt. The Office said that while fatalities over Thanksgiving last year were down in Georgia there were actually more collisions and more injuries.
