On Thursday May 12, there was a fatal accident when a pedestrian was hit by a vehicle in a hit and run.

According to troopers from the Valdosta State Patrol the accident happened at Georgia Highway 38 / US 84 at Moore Crossing Road, in Lowndes County about half a mile east of Tower Road.

A pedestrian, later identified 38 year old Lester Brooks of Douglas, was walking eastbound on GA Highway 38 in the left eastbound lane. He was wearing dark colored clothing and the portion of Highway 38 he was walking in was unlit. An unknown vehicle, thought possibly to have been a tractor trailor struck Mr. Brooks and left the scene.

Brooks was pronounced deceased at the scene by Deputy Coroner Brad Carter.

The accident is still under investigation and a toxicology report is pending for Brooks.
