On Monday, December 5, an airplane crash killed a pilot as the plane was approaching Albany airport.
According to officials from Key Lime Air, the weather was bad on Monday night and the plane was a propeller cargo flight KG 2308. It took of from Panama City, FL airport on its regular flight to Albany with only the pilot on board. It flew towards the north east at 7,000 feet and was near Camilla when contact was lost.
Just after 10 p.m.officials received a call to say the the plane had crashed in a field at Mt. Zion Road and Mt. Zion Church Road and the only person on board, the pilot, Captain Lance McCaw had been killed.
There were heavy rain and storms in the area at the time, but it’s not clear if that played a role in the crash.
Investigators with the Federal Aviation Administration went to the scene along with the National Transportation Safety Board who are in charge of the investigation.
The Colorado based Key Lime Air has a fleet of over 30 aircraft and serves as a feeder for UPS air cargo operations. However, over the past 25 years, this is the sixth safety occurrence for the operator, and the 163rd safety occurrence of the type of airplane.
