On Wednesday, July 13, two people were seriously injured in an accident with a tractor-trailer on Interstate 75.
According to Florida Highway Patrol, the accident happened on the Interstate near mile marker 451 in Hamilton County at around 10.20 a.m. Franklin Turner, aged 46 of Gray, Georgia was driving southbound in a tractor trailer and 36 year old Daniel Jefferson of Valdosta, Georgia together with his four passengers, was also driving southbound in a 2013 Nissan Pathfinder, a short way behind Turner.
The left front tire of the tractor trailer then blew and the rig swerved to the left which caused
Jefferson’s vehicle to go under Turner’s trailer and it was trapped in front of the trailer’s left rear tires. The tractor trailer then dragged the Pathfinder through the guardrail and into the left northbound lane before coming to a stop facing south on the left northbound grass shoulder with the Pathfinder still in front of Turner’s left rear trailer tires.
Turner and one of Jefferson’s passengers, 14 year old Emily Peacock, 1of Valdosta, Ga., were transported by air to UF Health Shands in Gainesville with serious injuries.
Jefferson and two of his other passengers, 15 year old Anna Kelly, of Valdosta and 8 year old Kaitlyn Jefferson, received minor injuries and were transported to Shands Live Oak Regional Medical Center. Penny Jefferson, aged 38, of Valdosta, Ga., was uninjured.
